Presidential Classroom Winners

AFSCME Pres. Gerald W. McEntee spoke to some 300 high school students — 15 of them children of AFSCME members — during the recent Presidential Classroom for Young Americans meeting here in the nation’s capital. McEntee told the group they represented the best of hopes our country has for the future: "You are the folks who are going to have to come up with the solutions — not this year or next — but in ten or fifteen years, you’ll be the inheritors of each of this country’s institutions — government, academia, business and labor."

The Presidential Classroom for Young Americans is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that brings high school students to Washington, D.C., to give them an up-close view of our political system including labor’s role in national leadership.

Applications for scholarships are due in January and must come from children of AFSCME members who are high school juniors and seniors with at least a 3.0 grade point average.
