Helping the Disabled

By

WASHINGTON, D.C.

AFSCME, in cooperation with the National Organization on Disability, recognizes affiliates working to improve the lives of those with disabilities.

Last year's awards went to New York DC 37 for winning pre-tax paratransit services — making transportation more affordable for those who rely on them; and to Local 2507 (DC 37), which fought for the rights of disabled paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

Two $500 prizes will be presented this year. Councils and/or local unions can nominate themselves or another AFSCME group by writing to AFSCME's Department of Research and Collective Bargaining Services — at 1625 L St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036-5687 — describing the nominee's accomplishments. The nomination should be accompanied by a letter, addressed to Kerry Korpi, from the council/local president or director. The submission must be postmarked by May 30, 2003.
