Women's Conferences Planned

By

AFSCME's first women's conference this year will take place in San Francisco — at the Hilton San Francisco — from June 27-29. Members in affiliates west of Illinois, plus those in Ohio and Michigan, are encouraged to attend that one. An eastern session is set for Nov. 21-23 in Boston — at the Sheraton Boston.

About 53 percent of AFSCME's members are women. They make up about half of the union's officers and 30 percent of local union/council presidents. The conferences give AFSCME's women leaders the opportunity to gather new information and develop valuable skills while networking with their peers. The meetings also help new women activists learn about AFSCME and the rest of the labor movement.

There is no fee for the conferences, but travel and lodging arrangements are the participant's responsibility. Hotel reservations must be made through AFSCME's Meeting and Travel office. To download the forms, go to AFSCME's Web site, and click on "AFSCME Women." For more information call AFSCME's Women's Rights Department at (202) 429-5090.
