Workers Win with WINS

By

Have you ever wanted to be on the radio? Well, you already are. The Workers Independent News Services (WINS) reports on the lives and issues of working people like us — and our unions — which the mainstream media tend to overlook. Examples: organizing victories, job outsourcing trends, workplace safety struggles and analyses of corporate abuses of workers' pensions.

WINS' broadcasts — which include a daily newscast, an economics report, interviews with progressive politicians and celebrities, and other weekly features — go out daily to thousands of listeners on 40 radio stations across America. Some of WINS' features are also carried by the new liberal talk show network, Air America; Cable Radio Network; and the new XM satellite, a subscription service for radio listeners.

To continue giving voice to workers' issues and concerns, WINS relies on local union contributors and local union sponsors. AFSCME is among the enthusiastic supporters of WINS, which is based in Madison, Wis. Council 24 has already committed financial assistance to the service. And so has the Civil Service Employees Association/AFSCME Local 1000.
