Wounded Soldier Needs Help
MARCELLUS, NEW YORK
Edward and Colleen Guerin are thankful their 22-year-old soldier son, Jeffrey, is alive. He suffered two broken legs and serious eye injuries, but two of his comrades died. Two others were badly wounded. An Army medic assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Afghanistan, young Guerin was severely injured on Oct. 14 last year when a homemade bomb blasted the vehicle carrying him and his four fellow soldiers.
These days, Guerin spends most of his time at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., undergoing treatment. His father is a retired maintenance mechanic for Onondaga County, a 25-year member of the Civil Service Employees Association/AFSCME Local 1000 and is now a member of NY/CSEA Retiree Chapter 1000. He worries that Jeffrey may never see again unless he gets a cornea transplant. Bone grafts may also be required to repair damage to his legs.
To help with the medical expenses, friends and co-workers have set up the Jeff Guerin Family Fund. Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 312, Marcellus, N.Y. 13108.
