Ringing the Bell for Reponsible Investment

NEW YORK CITY

The huge California and New York City Public Retirement Systems and DC 37 have enlisted the United Nations in the battle to get corporations to invest using corporate governance, social and environmental criteria. Priya Sara Mathur, a member of Local 3993 (Council 57), serves on the CalPERS board, and in a recent ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange, she helped UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan ring the NYSE bell to publicize the international body's Principles for Responsible Investment. "CalPERS and NYCERS have been leaders on these critical issues," Mathur said. "Now we get to put them to use on a global scale."
