AFSCME on "Jeopardy"
America's popular nighttime game show "Jeopardy" used AFSCME as a topic recently: Contestant Kirstin Olsen of California won money by answering clues in the "Labor" category.
For those who may not know, "Jeopardy" asks players to answer a topic in the form of a question. This one was, "More than one million strong, AFSCME is the American Federation of State, County and these employees."
Olsen won $600 for saying: "What is municipal?" In a teacher training course a few years ago, she had come across AFSCME when she was researching professional employee organizations. The long name stayed in her memory.
