Financial Standards Go On-Line

By

AFSCME has a new resource that is a must-see for anyone who handles union finances, including — but not limited to — credit cards, expense reports, wages and travel. Now available on-line is AFSCME’s Financial Standards Code for use by our affiliates in handling union funds and other assets, and maintaining financial records.

The code, strengthened by AFSCME’s International Executive Board after last year’s convention, is one of the most comprehensive financial standards in the labor movement. It provides step-by-step procedures on maintaining financial recordkeeping, makes recommendations on sound business practices, provides rules and guidance on paying wages, reimbursing expenses, issuing credit cards, and more.

Already more than 8,000 copies of the code have been distributed to International vice presidents, council presidents, local presidents, and secretary-treasurers of all local unions. Now every member of the union can log-on to learn better ways to maintain the bottom line. This is especially useful for those who handle union dollars!

This code — and its easy availability — clearly demonstrates AFSCME’s commitment to protecting the dues money of every member of our union and ensures that our integrity remains sound.
