The AFSCME Advantage Makes Them Winners
Since 1992, Union Plus Scholarships have helped make college dreams come true for hundreds of union members and their children.
Paying for college has just gotten easier for 12 AFSCME families with Union Plus Scholarships. This year, 126 students — representing 33 AFL-CIO unions — were chosen from a pool of 4,800, to receive more than $200,000 in scholarships. The awards range from $500 to $4,000.
Winners of the year 2000 awards represent a wide sampling of demographics, union affiliations, goals and accomplishments. One judge described them: "[These students] are not only doing things. They're the leaders in their group."
The scholarships are funded and administered by Union Privilege and Household Credit Services. Members of unions that participate in the credit card program, as well as their spouses and dependent children, are eligible to apply if they attend or plan to attend a four-year college, community college, technical college or trade school. Applicants need not have an AFSCME Advantage MasterCard.
Applications for the 2001 awards are available on the AFSCME Advantage Web site: http://www.afscme.org. You can also get an application by clearly printing your name, International union affiliation, return address and number with area code on a post card, and mailing it to: Union Plus Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 34800, Washington, D.C. 20043. Jan. 31 is the application deadline; winners will be announced May 31, 2001.
