Another Boost for Organizing

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS

Students at Council 31's weeklong annual summer school traditionally present the council with a school-end gift of thanks. This year, reports Exec. Director and International Vice Pres. Henry Bayer, the gift bore a special resonance: The students collected $500 and earmarked it for AFSCME's organizing efforts in Kentucky and Missouri.

"We had no idea they were thinking about doing that," Bayer says. "It's most gratifying to have our local leaders demonstrate an appreciation for the importance of organizing."
