Family Fun

By

Want to draw a unicorn? Start your own business? Or maybe just practice a few disco moves? AFSCME's ten "We Are Family" workshops offered all this and more.

Hundreds of delegates' friends and relatives danced and drew, dreamed and schemed. Some watched fashion shows and got advice from fashion consultants. Others took a class in aerobic crosstraining-and even practiced the electric slide dance.

And while delegates voted on resolutions, their children (some in day care) were taught street smarts by a Chicago police officer, had balloon animals tied for them and learned some karate basics from a former captain of the U.S. Karate Team.

"We Are Family" started in Chicago at the 27th Convention. Ten years later, it's one of the Convention's most popular programs.
