Saving Lives
BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT
Members of Council 4's Local 1522 recently put their lives on the line when they rescued 30 residents from a burning Bridgeport Manor nursing home unit, and prevented the fire from spreading and gutting the building. Eighteen residents and staffers, who suffered smoke inhalation, were treated in area hospitals.
Workers acted fast, averting a disaster that could have easily resulted in fatalities. Bridgeport firefighters commended them for staying calm and focused.
The Local 1522 members who braved the blaze include Jermaine Kenney, Yvonne Cooke, Chansy Vongpradith, Kathy Boozer, Janina Towicz, Teresa Almeida, Sharon Kinch-Staggers, Zaida Miranda, Albina Fernandes, Iris Parra and Shirley Randall.
"I am so proud of our members for their courage and dedication to the residents at Bridgeport Manor," says local Pres. Anna Montalvo. "Their quick response and selfless regard ensured the safety of patients and staff."
