Celebrating Veterans

ROCKY HILL, CONNECTICUT

Council 4 sponsored its second annual Picnic for Veterans here at the state's Veterans Home and Hospital, bringing together state war veterans and union volunteers who served food and mingled with the residents throughout the day.

The event's planners wanted to lift the residents' spirits for more than just one day, so they raised money to create a state-of-the-art exercise facility at the hospital. Several unions and businesses contributed a total of $70,000; one of the firms, Total Fitness Equipment, donated more than $25,000 worth of cardiovascular equipment and high-impact rubber flooring.

The new facility was finished and dedicated in July.
