Statement by AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee on the New Bush Administration Budget

President Bush's budget demonstrates once again that when it comes to cutting health care for seniors to pay for tax breaks for the rich, he's a one trick pony. On the heels of a disastrous prescription drug benefit, the last thing seniors need is the GOP cutting their Medicare. But that’s exactly what they're doing.

Unless the President is looking for another Social Security-like failure, he should abandon his Trickle Down Health Care plan and come to the table with a real health care reform plan.

What's at stake is the kind of America we want to be. The time to put the people's interests before the special interests is now!

AFSCME’s 1.6 million members provide the vital services that make America happen. With members in hundreds of different occupations – from nurses to corrections officers, child care providers to sanitation workers – AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and prosperity and opportunity for all working families.
