AFSCME President Says Herman Confirmation a Victory for Organized Labor and Working Families
Washington — Gerald W. McEntee, the International President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, today issued the following statement regarding the Clinton Administration’s decision to issue a memorandum to federal departments regarding federal contracts and Alexis Herman’s subsequent confirmation as the next Labor Secretary:
“The Administration’s decision to issue a memorandum rather than an Executive Order is a difference without a distinction. Clearly, the memorandum will serve the same purpose as the Executive Order. I think today’s action is a victory for labor; a victory for working families; and a victory for Alexis Herman, who I am confident will be a stellar Secretary of Labor.”
