PENNSYLVANIA:

At the recent founding convention of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans in Grantsville, AFSCME's own Marguerite "Maggie" Blanch received an award of honor for her tireless dedication to the retirees of her state. Maggie is the longtime president of statewide AFSCME Retiree Chapter 13 and the former treasurer of the Pennsylvania Council of Senior Citizens.

Unfortunately, Maggie was recuperating from an illness at the time and was unable to attend the convention. But friends, family and coworkers proudly accepted the award in her behalf. Listening to the reading of Maggie's citation by Alliance regional director Marie Malagreca, were Chapter 13 Vice-Pres. Dan Mazus, Maggie's sisters Nell and Mae, and International Union retiree field coordinator Ann Widger. Congratulations Maggie!

ILLINOIS:

As chair of the national AFSCME Retiree Council, Illinois Chapter 31 Pres. Doris Clark recently represented retiree members at the official Presidential-candidate endorsement meeting of the union's International Executive Board. Recently, Clark's record of activism was rewarded when she received the Milton Cohen Award from Citizen Action/Illinois. The annual prize is named in memory of one of the most respected civic activists in the state and honors community leaders who continue his tradition of vision and integrity. Congratulations Doris!
