This position will be responsible for assisting in the development of all AFSCME online and traditional video projects, including working with project and professional staff within and outside the department and coordinating the use of outside vendors. This includes creating a range of videos that communicate and forward the organization’s agenda and engage our audiences, particularly on key issue and priority campaigns; working across different departments to create original products, from initial scripting to filming and editing, in a timely manner and often working within a breaking news cycle.
DUTIES: Assists in creating videos from concept to finished product, including scripting, production, lighting, and editing. Assists in creating motion graphics, bumpers, and lower thirds consistent electronic media technology and with AFSCME’s branding. Assists in creating rapid response web videos to educate and impact key issues affecting AFSCME members and working families. Acquire rights-free media assets to be incorporated into rapid response videos. Work with media consultants on specific projects. Serve as the assistant to the senior Video Productions Coordinator for AFSCME conferences and conventions. Assists in developing and maintaining media asset management system. Assists in developing and maintain media monitoring systems. Establish best practices protocols for video project requests, workflow and sharing. Assist in the preparation of production budgets for specified projects. Make recommendations for the annual operating and capital budgets. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of personnel such as production assistants, production crews and editors. Conduct staff and member trainings on online video and editing. Maintain and manage video production studio and equipment. Oversee supplier/vendor representatives conducting maintenance and repair services on equipment. Assists in all video cataloguing and archiving activities. Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental activities.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in film or electronic media production, journalism, communications and three to five years of related in advanced multi-format video editing skills using Final Cut Studio and delivering finished digital video products for an online audience. Experience using professional digital HD video equipment and accessories and experience shooting with multiple cameras and formats. Diversity in production/shooting style. Ability to record ENG events and interviews, as well as create more stylized video packages. Experience with DVD authoring and web-streaming encoders such as Apple DVD Studio Pro, Episode and Quicktime Pro. Professional experience with television monitoring/recording technology. Experience producing and filming on-location in dynamic conditions. Experience with Adobe After Effects.
Ability to travel and work extended work hours needed. A valid driver’s license is required.
