Software Technician

Position provides administrative and technical support to the Education & Training Department’s Leadership Academy and web-based training activities. Performs a variety of functions requiring attention to detail, discretion and knowledge of web-based training software, policies and procedures.

DUTIES: Acts as a technical support and liaison for web-based training and learning management system (LMS) for affiliates and headquarters staff. Provides assistance to instructors in conducting online meetings and web-based trainings. Provides instructions to participants and trainers on how to manipulate web-based training software. Maintains a detailed database of trained participants and training results via the department’s LMS. Responsible for sending certificates upon completion of all training classes. Receives, screens, and tracks incoming training requests. Maintains departmental databases, web page and email account. Maintains records on all training and course related materials. Assists with maintaining records on all training and course related materials. Works with staff and AFSCME’s web-based training vendor to determine database needs and upgrades. Recommends appropriate software upgrades and changes to supervisor. Designs visual materials using graphics, charts and tables for the Education Department programs. Collects and reviews invoices for payment. Compares invoices against source documents to ensure payments are appropriate and services are rendered. Assists Administrative Assistant with the department’s annual budget. Assists other clerical staff with filing, telephone calls, mail and coordination of meetings. Prepares basic correspondence, reports, and other forms of office communication from draft to final form. Provides other support duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an associate's degree with computer specialization and five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities: advance knowledge of computer software and web-based training; sufficient knowledge of English to compose, proofread and edit correspondence; excellent oral and written communication skills, high level of proficiency with Survey Monkey, Articulate, SABA, graphic design software as well MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to type 55-60 wpm; math skills sufficient to perform comparative analyses; capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and be a highly motivated self-starter. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff at various levels of the organization. Ability to create and maintain databases and generate reports.  Must be able to independently complete assignments and work under pressure to meet tight schedules. Overtime and weekend work will be required on occasion.
