The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is seeking a dedicated and creative strategic communications assistant to help design and implement communications strategies for our organizing, legislative and political efforts.
AFSCME is the nation's largest public service labor union and a leader in the fight for social and economic change. All across the country we're fighting for dignity and respect for the people who do the toughest jobs in America.
Responsibilities may include:
- Driving communications for member-organizing and community campaigns.
- Creating materials for speeches, flyers, leaflets, and online communications.
- Working with members to effectively advocate for themselves and the public services they provide.
- Generating community support for union objectives.
- Supporting other activities carried out by the campaign.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Experience creating content for print and/or electronic media, social networks and/or blogs, radio, video, direct mail.
- Labor, community, political or student organizing experience.
- Some knowledge of media relations.
- Strong MS Office Suite and basic graphic design (InDesign or Quark) experience preferred.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours including weekends.
- Valid driver's license and reliable car.
