DUTIES: This position is responsible for providing communications support in major organizing, contract and other priority campaigns. Works closely with International staff, affiliates, unorganized workers, members, print shops, mail houses, graphic designers and other outside vendors. Coordinates the writing, design, printing and mailing of various campaign and other materials, including brochures, leaflets, presentations, direct mail pieces, booklets, video scripts and other media. Acts as the departmental liaison to staff and graphic designers, print shops, mail houses, vendors and other outside agencies. Tracks and coordinates activities to ensure that projects are completed within stated timelines. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, may provide campaign planning and strategic communications assistance to priority campaigns and initiatives. Responds to field requests for logos, photographic images and archived files and electronically transmits files to both internal and external contacts. Maintains electronic files of completed brochures, leaflets, presentations, direct mail pieces, booklets, video scripts and other media. Supports the Assistant Director in development of strategic message training or campaign activities. Under the direction of the Assistant Director or professional staff members, uses web-based software programs to send messages and alerts and gather data on effectiveness of program. Edits and proofs copy and graphic designs for review and approval by the Assistant Director or professional staff members. Responsible for press outreach, earned media efforts, letter to the editor and op ed programs and all other media related efforts for assigned campaigns. Performs other related duties to support department objectives.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in labor relations, communications, political science or liberal arts with two (2) to three (3) years of experience in labor, political or community organizing; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Exposure to labor, political or community organizing, including communications work. Knowledge of media relations and communications strategy. Knowledge of and experience with graphic design software, video production and printing techniques. Knowledge of and experience with electronic forms of communications, including e-mail and websites. Ability to implement basic campaign communications strategies. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work well under pressure and in fast-paced campaigns. Ability to assess and appropriately respond to information requests. Ability to communicate in a foreign language desirable.
