Assistant Accounting Manager
This position supervises the day-to-day operations of an assigned section in the Accounting Department and must be capable of making sound independent judgment in the application of accounting principles and procedures, with a focus on ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements, reports, and analyses. Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Assistant Manager coordinates, directs and manages projects and assists with the design, implementation and training for new accounting systems.
DUTIES:
- Assists in the management and direction of the operations within the assigned section. Meets regularly with team to review operations, set work goals, plan activities, and determine status.
- Ensures accurate and timely reporting of recurring financial statements, reports and analyses to all stakeholders and assists in the development of systems for monitoring completion in assigned section.
- Reviews and approves monthly and annual journal entries and accruals as needed for monthly and year-end closings.
- May assist in the production of various schedules for the external auditors. Clarifies information and answers questions raised during the audit.
- May assist in the production of reports for filing with agencies such as IRS, DOL, FEC and State and Local Revenue Departments.
- Assists management during the design, planning, installation, training, and documentation of new accounting systems. Provides feedback to management on potential problems and their resolution and gives updates on progress toward completion.
- Performs analyses of financial data and prepares schedules, worksheets, charts, and ad hoc reports. Presents results and conclusions of such analyses.
- Regularly apprises the manager of activities occurring within the areas of assigned responsibility and confers on status of projects and progress toward meeting agreed upon deadlines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in accounting with additional course work in information systems management, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a senior accountant or any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities will also be considered.
- A CPA certification, with graduate studies in accounting is desirable.
Skills:
- Knowledge of and experience with automated accounting systems including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, budgeting, travel expense, taxes, and financial audits.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with system design and implementation, and utilization of automated accounting and reporting systems.
- Knowledge of necessary laws and regulations to ensure compliance with agency requirements. Federal and state agencies include IRS, DoL, FEC, State Department of Tax and Revenue.
- Experience using automated systems for analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Ability to manage, plan, implement, and complete multiple projects.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of accounting staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of software tools for financial analysis.
Travel and work hours:
- Occasional travel and extended work hours may be required.
