AF SCME Council 20 is seeking a Bookkeeper to work immediately in the office of Council 20 in Washington DC.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY 

AFSCME Council 20 is the representative and organizing operation for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees in the Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia regions. Cn 20 leads and guides the 33 Local unions comprising members of Washington DC municipal employees, federal employees, private service employees , and North Virginia public and private service employees.

AFSCME Cn 20 has a rich history of members standing up and fighting for the public service and first respondents in the DC & N. VA metro area.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Bookkeeper is appointed by the Executive Director and shall serve at the direction of the Executive Director and the Office Manager. The office of Council 20 is at I 00 M Street, SE. Washington DC, 20003.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES:

Daily/Weekly/Bi-weekly:

  • Collection of Local dues rosters via email;
  • Data entry (via union-ware programs) into reports for appropriate Union personnel;
  • Issue checks for payables and file invoices;
  • Process payroll and enter information from payroll journal to Quickbooks.

Monthly:

  • Calculate and submit Monthly Pension Contributions;
  • Collaborates with Secretary-Treasurer for Funds Transfer;
  • Enters ACH Deposits in Quickbooks from bank statements;
  • Enters manual check deposits in Quickbooks and deposit checks at the bank;
    • Bank reconciliation;
    • Complete AFSCME per-cap.ita and Local rebate worksheets;
    • Issues AFSCME per-capita and Local stipend checks;
    • Administers arn;l compares Arlington County Government member roster to Colonial Llfe bill and readjust any members from Colonial Life that are not on VA membership roster lists;
    • Copy and file PEOPLE (political action funds) checks and rosters; mail originals to AFSCME international.

Quarterly:

  • Participate in Finance Committee Meetings;
  • Email Profit & Loss/Balance Sheets to auditors at AFSCME International;

Annually:

  • Create annual budget to Executive Director for review and Executive Board approval;
  • Complete pension census report to the AFSCME lntemational for the prior year;
  • Complete & remit minimum dues worksheet to AFSCME International;
  • Complete schedules for LM/990 and assist with annual audit;
  • Complete 990-N for locals;
  • Complete LM rep01is;
  • Complete surety bond and LUAFR reports; assist locals with their repmis if needed;
  • Calculate and issue 1099's

Book-keeper will execute any other bookkeeping/financial obligations that are newly determined by Executive Director or via guidance from AFSCME international. Occasional ove1iime may be required. Some flex time is negotiable.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledgeable with HP Microsoft computers, Quick books, Excell programs, Spreadsheets. Knowledge of Unionware, and other programs that will enhance the financial administration of the union is preferred;
