Network Analyst II

This position in the Information Technology Department is responsible for designing, building, maintaining server-based equipment that includes web-enabled services, Office 365, VMware, databases, and application servers as well as AWS and Azure Cloud.  Reports to the Assistant Director of Network & Operations and indirectly to the Departmental Director. 

DUTIES: 

Network Evaluation:

  • Monitor, test, and evaluate performance of AFSCME network and servers.
  • Troubleshoot network problems both internally and externally.
  • Provide technical support to the IT Network, PC support and application support groups.
  • Suggest ways to improve department’s procedures and standards based on process analysis and results evaluation, and information gained from external sources.
  • Install varied operating systems and their associated software tools for maintenance and monitoring the network components.
  • Setup and install hardware components associated with switches, firewalls, network, and servers.
  • Use monitoring tools for performance evaluation, monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate work with vendors and other internal staff to implement various projects.
  • Manage multiple priorities to adapt quickly to changes in requirements.

Training and Development:

  • Mentor, coordinate, and support network staff.
  • Keep current on emerging technologies via professional organizations, technical or functional reference manuals and magazines, and other external sources, and advises and makes recommendations to IS management/staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a technical degree (preferably Computer Sciences) or attended a technical institution with Microsoft Certification in Computer Sciences or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ work experience with the following languages and tools:

Experience & Skill Requirements:

  • Office 365 configuration, customization, support, and maintenance.
  • Hands on experience with VMware and virtualization technology.
  • Microsoft Networks and tools, IIS, MS Server software all versions.
  • Experience in configuration, usage, and support of Active Directory, SQL, and other related software.
  • Experience utilizing Firewall and VPN technologies as well as wireless access points and controllers.
  • Experience installing, operating and maintaining backup software systems, to disk and to the cloud for Disaster Recovery.
  • Experience with TCP/IP network design, DHCP, DNS, FTP, Terminal Services, File, and print servers. MCSE is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain and support ISCSI, fiber SAN and NAS storage, Raid, NetApp, and Dell data servers.
  • Hands on with Experience with VMWare and virtualization technology.
  • Experience with Switches, routers, and network protocols.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work with project planning tools such as MS Project to develop and execute projects utilizing outside contractors and internal staff to accomplish projects within given budgets and timelines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Current MCSE from Microsoft is preferred.

Extended Hours and Travel:

  • Evening and weekend assignments may be necessary along with emergency access in the event of a system failure.
  • Some travel may be required.
