This position executes communications for AFSCME corrections and public safety organizing campaigns. The incumbent produces content and supports campaign priorities while demonstrating proficiency in complex communications strategies and brand management.

 

DUTIES:

  • Produces campaign materials including flyers, emails, social media posts, press materials and member stories under tight timelines.
  • Works directly with campaign leads to deliver communications assets in real time.
  • Applies established corrections and public safety branding across print and online publications, social media platforms and other materials.
  • Plans, develops and implements communications strategies.
  • Leads day-to-day operations of corrections and public safety social media platforms and develops digital marketing strategies.
  • Produces and develops content for corrections-related print publications.
  • Uses existing tools and templates for member communications.
  • Leads design of leaflets, brochures, direct mail pieces, video and campaign materials.
  • Leads earned and paid media efforts, including news events.
  • Executes electronic media campaigns using email, websites and digital media.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with coursework in video production, labor relations, communications, political science or liberal arts, plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience in labor, political or community organizing campaigns and advocacy communications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience developing creative, multi-dimensional communications strategies.
  • Knowledge of earned media and media relations.
  • Multi-channel digital campaign experience and knowledge of digital platforms including web content management, email tools and social media.
  • Proficiency with design and video editing tools like Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications abilities.
  • Ability to develop campaign messaging and enforce message discipline.
  • Capacity to analyze research data and reach logical conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must thrive in an environment with tight deadlines, changing priorities, high pressure and irregular hours.
  • High level of judgment and capacity for independent initiative.
  • Spanish language communication ability is desirable.

 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Basic HTML and CSS knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Facebook Ads Manager.
  • Spanish language proficiency.

 

Travel and work hours:

  • Extensive travel and extended work hours, including weekends, may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
