Union Organizer

AFSCME Wisconsin Council 32 is taking applications for the position of full-time Union Organizer primarily developing existing and new worker units. We are looking for a career minded problem solver with a proven record in building leaders, coalitions, and power. If you know organizing, we will teach you the union part. This position can be based out of the Madison or Milwaukee office. You will be working statewide.


Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with non-union workers, members, and staff.
  • Identifying and developing worker leaders.
  • Developing and guiding worker committees.
  • Empowering workers to build community and act to improve their working conditions.
  • Working with teams of members and staff on organizing campaigns, focused on non-union workers.
  • Identifying and recruiting members to build political power for workers in their community.
  • Data management.
  • Facilitating a variety of trainings.

  • The ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and with limited supervision.
  • A valid driver's license and the willingness to travel.
  • Able to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift and carry thirty pounds, walk long distances, navigate stairs and stand for a long time.
  • Ability to occasionally withstand outdoor inclement weather.
