WHEREAS:

AFSCME's commitment to equal rights for all American citizens, and its commitment to fighting discrimination based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, or political belief has been longstanding; and

WHEREAS:

Blacks and other minorities continue to be victims of racial discrimination in hiring, promotion, and a host of other related areas; and

WHEREAS:

The socio-economic experiences of minorities are often different from other American citizens; and

WHEREAS:

A growing number of AFSCME's members are minorities who have helped to make AFSCME what it is today.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International President appoint a Committee to advise the International Union on affairs affecting blacks and other minorities, who are members of AFSCME in particular.
