Equal Opportunity for Advancement of Women in the Military

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has members who are in military service, either serving in reserve or national guard units or who have seen active duty; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has long supported advancement of women based on qualification and training; and

WHEREAS:

Women in the military often are denied promotions or advancement because specific service opportunities are excluded from them.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME supports the concept that women in the military be given the same opportunities for service, including combat duty, and advancement as men; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That all barriers to the promotion of women in the military be stricken down so that women can be promoted on an equal footing with men.
