Community Support for Collective Bargaining

WHEREAS:

Public employees are on the job 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing the vital services that keep our communities running; and

WHEREAS:

Experience in both the public and private sector demonstrates that employee involvement and cooperation is best achieved when workers are empowered through a system of formal representation and collective bargaining; and

WHEREAS:

Collective bargaining is the mechanism through which workers voices can be heard, resulting in efficient, quality services for communities.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME and its affiliates engage in a campaign to educate and gain support from community-based organizations about the collective bargaining process and the essential services provided by public employees; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME and its affiliates throughout the country develop allies within their respective communities who support collective bargaining for public employees.
