Creation of AFSCME Veterans Advisory Committeee

WHEREAS:

Veterans of U.S. military service are the backbone of our country; and

WHEREAS:

Veterans of U.S. military service have made enormous sacrifices of their time, health, and interruption of their family ties in order to preserve our freedoms; and

WHEREAS:

Veterans who are members of AFSCME have common interests and objectives; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has as one of its objectives to promote the organization of workers in general and public employees in particular.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME create a Veterans Advisory Committee to enhance the ability of AFSCME's veterans to raise issues of concern to AFSCME's veterans and better enable the union to address veterans' issues; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME support the building of coalitions between AFSCME and other veterans' groups to address the common interests of AFSCME veterans.
