Equal Protection for All Head Start Employees

WHEREAS:

Unions are our means of job security, protection of workers rights, fair wages and health benefits; and

WHEREAS:

Newly hired employees paid through government grant money and newly hired employees funded under special government programs are not recognized as union members. These employees lose benefits and collective bargaining rights until they are organized and unionized.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

Workers funded by various government agencies, who work at union work sites providing similar or the same service as the unionized workers, should be organized; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME International and affiliates give support to Head Start and other workers who are fighting to be organized.
