Supporting the Construction of a Permanent Memorial for Fallen Emergency Medical Service Personnel in our Nation's Capital

Resolution No. 97
38th International Convention
Moscone West
July 28 - August 1, 2008
San Francisco, CA

Emergency medical service personnel, including but not limited to emergency medical technicians, paramedics, flight nurses and flight medics, risk their lives to preserve the lives of others; and

Each year dozens of emergency medical service personnel die in the line of duty while responding to, operating at and returning from the scene of emergencies; and

No permanent memorial recognizing the supreme sacrifice made by these men and women currently exists in this nation; and

AFSCME locals representing emergency medical service personnel, in cooperation with other EMS representatives throughout the country, have undertaken the task of establishing a permanent memorial to honor these fallen heroes in our nation’s capital.

That the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), its councils and locals do hereby endorse the construction of the National Emergency Medical Service Memorial in Washington, D.C.
