FEDERAL EMPLOYEES

Resolution No. 46
40th International Convention
Los Angeles Convention Center
June 18 - 22, 2012
Los Angeles, CA

WHEREAS:

Federal workers provide vital services to the public, from safeguarding our food supply and our water and air safety, to securing our homeland, providing aid to rural America, and assisting veterans, the elderly and citizens with disabilities; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME Council 26 has represented federal workers since 1972 when employees of the Library of Congress, the U.S. Patent Office and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights affiliated with AFSCME; and

WHEREAS:

The Republican leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives has waged a relentless attack on federal employees in the 112th Congress; and

WHEREAS:

Federal employees are in the midst of a two-year pay freeze and face the potential of more pay freezes, increased contributions to their retirement system and other unwarranted attacks.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME will continue to speak out in opposition to these attacks on federal workers and to make the case that these attacks are politically motivated and not supported by the facts; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME will be vigilant and will fight to prevent further cuts to the salaries, pensions and benefits of federal employees; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That AFSCME will continue to support the dedicated federal workers who perform valuable federal services upon which the nation relies.
