Dining services worker at Rutgers University is latest winner of Never Quit award

“She’s a great person.” “She really cares.” “She’s a good friend.” “Regina is the bomb!”

These are some of the ways her co-workers describe Regina Henderson, a utility worker at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Henderson works in dining services at the Douglass Student Center.

Every day, Henderson works the cash register. But what she does at the student center is a lot more than that: She is a team leader who cares for those around her and often puts others above herself, whether they are students or co-workers.

“The care that I do and provide comes solely from the heart,” she says.

For her service to her community, Henderson, a member of AFSCME Local 888 (New Jersey Council 63) is a winner of our union’s Never Quit Service Award. The award recognizes public service workers who go above and beyond the call of duty to make their communities better.

“What drives me every day to get out of bed and come to work is the students that come to Rutgers,” Henderson says. “They’re around my children’s age, and I just look for them to have enjoyment when they come here. Because I would want my children to be treated the same way I would treat any student that comes inside the student center.”
