Saunders wishes President Trump and the first lady ‘a speedy recovery’

By AFSCME Staff ·

WASHINGTON — AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after President Donald Trump revealed that he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19:

“The 1.4 million members of AFSCME – the front-line public service workers fighting this pandemic – and I send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the president and the first lady.

“We continue to face a gravely serious public health crisis demanding discipline and vigilance. Wearing masks, practicing social distancing, following the science and listening to front-line public health professionals are not political statements. They are matters of life and death – as we know from seeing more than 205,000 family members, friends and co-workers succumb to this illness.

“More than 7 million U.S. families needlessly have faced what the Trumps now face. If the most powerful people in the country can contract this disease, then anyone can. Only by trusting and looking out for one another can we finally defeat this pandemic.”
