AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders on House Budget ResolutionWASHINGTON —
AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives passing the 2018 House Budget Resolution:
“Our kids deserve to grow up with quality health care and education. Seniors who have worked hard their whole lives should be able to count on Medicare and Medicaid when they need it. Our roads, bridges and schools are badly in need of repair. And yet the House of Representatives voted today to gut them all, in order to give tax breaks to those who need help the least. It is unconscionable to give a penny more to the billionaires and corporations who have rigged the rules to their own benefit, at the expense of already underfunded health care, education, infrastructure and other public services.
“The cuts contained in this budget will be felt in very real and tangible ways by our communities. Every member of Congress who voted for this budget resolution today voted to degrade the basic quality of life for American working families.”
