Congress Should Delay Tax Plan Vote

WASHINGTON —

AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders issued the following statement, calling on leadership in Congress to delay a vote on the tax plan:

“Congress is considering a radical and historically unpopular tax cut plan that will devastate working families while enriching millionaires, billionaires and CEOs. Democracy, fairness and common sense demand that all representatives elected by their constituents have the chance to deliberate and vote on that plan. Senator-elect Doug Jones should therefore be sworn in as soon as possible, with any vote on tax cuts delayed until he is seated. Anything less would represent a shocking disenfranchisement of the people of Alabama.”
