AFSCME Condemns Senate’s Vote to Send Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court

WASHINGTON —

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh:

“In every conceivable way, Brett Kavanaugh has revealed himself to be unfit for the United States Supreme Court. His extreme hostility to the rights and freedoms of working people is overwhelmingly clear in his record. His confirmation will make it harder for everyone who does not enjoy privilege and power – working people, women, immigrants, people of color and others – to get access to justice in the nation’s highest court.

“The credible sexual assault charges against Judge Kavanaugh have been shamefully dismissed and whitewashed, with this week’s slapdash FBI investigation designed to provide political cover for senators rather than bring important information to light.

“The millions of Americans who oppose this nomination will not fade into the night. Their passion will not subside. They will continue to raise their voices. They will be heard at the ballot box in 31 days.”
