AFSCME Condemns Unjust Ruling in Muslim Ban Case

WASHINGTON —

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement denouncing today’s unjust 5-4 decision in the Trump v. Hawaii U.S. Supreme Court case:

“Millions of working people of every race and creed place their trust in the United States Supreme Court to uphold core American values in its interpretation of our Constitution, and to enforce the checks and balances on executive power that a thriving democracy requires. That trust was violated once again today.

“The Court’s ruling today sends a dangerous message: the government is not required to treat all nationalities and religious faiths equally under the law, and the Chief Executive has the power to discriminate against any group of people under the guise of national security. This is a dangerous ruling, and a dark day for all those who strive to make this nation a land of opportunity and justice for all.”
