Workers Memorial Day: April 28, 2004
Government workplaces can be dangerous: According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 6,455 fatalities among government workers between 1992 and 2001. Under the Bush administration, voluntary compliance has been favored over enforcement, and job-safety programs have been weakened, leaving workers in danger. Join your fellow workers to honor those who have died or been injured on the job: write a letter to your local newspaper; help organize a WMD event.
Workers Memorial Day materials can be ordered through the AFSCME Web site.
