It’s time to speak up before our voices are silenced!
Much is at stake in the approval of the next justice of the U.S. Supreme Court – not just workers’ rights, but civil rights, voting rights, health care rights and much more.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, is the wrong person for this important job. He would tip the scales of the court even further in favor of a handful of wealthy special interests and against working people. He has routinely taken extreme positions against working families and in favor of employers, including in a case that resulted in the death of a worker because of employer negligence.
Kavanaugh also threatens the health care security of millions of Americans and could help Trump destroy the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He would fail in his duty as a member of the court to provide the necessary checks and balances to the executive branch. In fact, Kavanaugh has said he believes the president should be above the law and not subject to criminal prosecution and investigation.
We deserve a Supreme Court that protects the rights of all Americans, not just the wealthy and powerful. We deserve a court that holds the president and Congress accountable.
AFSCME members were busy during convention, making calls to urge opposition to Judge Kavanaugh.
