AFSCME’s Saunders: Big ugly jobs report highlights Trump administration’s failing anti-worker policies
WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement on the Bureau of Labor Statistics August jobs report:
“This big, ugly jobs report makes clear that an administration run by and for billionaires is failing working families. The Trump administration and its yes-men in Congress have rigged the economy for their wealthy donors, while launching an unrelenting assault on public service workers. The Trump tariffs and relentless cuts to public services over the last several months have had a chilling effect on local economies, slowing job growth and causing hiring freezes and layoffs. We are now seeing the initial results of those cuts with the worst jobs report since the pandemic era. State colleges and universities have been among the hardest hit by Trump’s assault, having lost 34,000 jobs since he took office.
“Unfortunately, this is just the beginning, and these anti-worker policies will likely lead to even worse job reports in the coming months as their Medicaid and spending cuts take effect. AFSCME will continue to fight these anti-worker extremists who are coming after our jobs, our health care, and our communities.”
