Local Union Training Instructor Program

WHEREAS:

One measure of the union's strength is a well-trained, active, and effective steward system; and

WHEREAS:

Local union stewards continue to be on the workplace firing line each day organizing, leading, representing, and communicating with AFSCME members in their efforts to build and strengthen the union; and

WHEREAS:

Effective training programs equip stewards with the skills necessary to understand and fulfill their duties and responsibilities; and

WHEREAS:

The Local Union Training Instructor program, by training rank-and-file AFSCME activists to conduct basic steward training, continues to be a valuable resource enabling the trainers to develop new skills while providing increased numbers of stewards with needed training.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to conduct Local Union Training Instructor programs for its affiliates so that the greatest number of stewards and potential stewards can receive needed training.
