WHEREAS:

AFSCME began as a state employee association 50 years ago and has grown to be the largest union in the AFL-CIO; and

WHEREAS:

Over the years, many public employee associations and independent unions have chosen to affiliate with AFSCME; and

WHEREAS:

Both AFSCME and these affiliated associations benefit from affiliations by increasing the level of services to their members and by enhancing their sphere of influence at all levels of government; and

WHEREAS:

Affiliation with AFSCME also provides all affiliates with the full protections and benefits of AFL-CIO membership.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME continue to provide a high level of services to and strengthen our relationships with our current affiliates; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to encourage associations and independent unions to affiliate with AFSCME, AFL-CIO.
