Smoking Policy

WHEREAS:

Many members have been discouraged from participating in AFSCME meetings due to smoking in such meetings; and

WHEREAS:

Some delegates to this Convention and to other AFSCME meetings are allergic to tobacco smoke; and

WHEREAS:

The past policy of waiting until people are adversely affected before asking people to stop smoking has been ineffectual and unhealthful.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union take positive steps to provide for smoking and non-smoking at all future meetings, conferences and conventions of this International Union.
