PEOPLE Candidate Support for Family Issues Platform

WHEREAS:

AFSCME has consistently supported affordable child care, parental leave, pay equity, affirmative action and reproductive rights; and

WHEREAS:

All of these issues require support, direction and commitment from elected officials at every level; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME's PEOPLE committee interviews prospective candidates on a wide range of issues that directly impact our members; and

WHEREAS:

Support or opposition to candidates based on a single issue is inimicable to the interests of the union.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

AFSCME's PEOPLE Committee, through our membership, endorse candidates who also support affordable child care, parental leave, pay equity, affirmative action and reproductive rights; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That these family issues be given as much consideration as other issues that impact AFSCME members.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That no single issue serve as a litmus test for determining PEOPLE Committee support or opposition to any candidate.
