WHEREAS:

United States citizens residing in the District of Columbia are without voting representation in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate; and

WHEREAS:

A bill has been introduced in Congress to correct this deficiency by establishing D.C. as the State of New Columbia.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME supports legislation granting a new name and statehood to the District of Columbia.
