31st International Convention - San Diego, CA (1994)

San Diego

Resolution No. 136
31st International Convention
June 27-July 1, 1994
San Diego, CA

WHEREAS:

The City of San Diego has not bargained in good faith with AFSCME Local 127, Council 36 in 1994; and

WHEREAS:

San Diego City employees have had to sacrifice more than their fair share in lost wages and benefits during the long depression and fiscal crisis in California; and

WHEREAS:

Despite these sacrifices the Mayor of San Diego is now unilaterally imposing the City's final regressive offer including take away and give backs, on the members of Local 127; and

WHEREAS:

The Mayor is also proposing to abolish the Civil Service System and to engage in wide spread privatization.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That this 31st International Convention shall march on City Hall this 30th day of June to express outrage at the City's unfair treatment of our brothers and sisters in Local 127 and to demonstrate solidarity with these AFSCME members; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union and its affiliates also support efforts of Local 127 members to fight back against the City's unreasonableness; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That such support shall include, if not requested by Local 127, a refusal to conduct any future AFSCME meetings in this City and an appeal by AFSCME to the AFL-CIO to officially include the City of San Diego and this Convention Center on the unfair list and to officially boycott this City, thereby denying the City of San Diego and this Convention Center of all future union business.
