The National Labor College
AFSCME has a long history of utilizing the resources and facilities of the George Meany Center for Labor Studies for a wide variety of training programs for international and affiliate staff and activists; and
The National Labor College of the George Meany Center for Labor Studies (NLC) was accredited in October, 1997, as an independent college by vote of the Maryland Higher Education Commission; and
The NLC is now in a position to offer increased educational opportunities for union-based training programs, continuing education units (CEUs), experiential learning credits and expanded bachelor’s degree programs, as well as other innovative methods of providing access to training programs.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the International Union will continue its relationship with the NLC by re-examining our traditional programs and exploring the development of new programs based on the expanded services provided by the NLC; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That the International Union and affiliates make training opportunities which reflect the new directions of the NLC available to staff and members.
