Central Collection of Union Dues

Resolution No. 91
34th International Convention
June 26 - 30, 2000
Philadelphia, PA

WHEREAS:

Under a system of central collection of union dues, when dues from local or chapter members are collected by the employer through payroll deduction, the full amount of such dues is transmitted directly by the employer to the council or appropriate body; and

WHEREAS:

The central collection of dues facilitates timely payment of per capita taxes. Central collection also greatly reduces the paperwork required to local or chapter secretary-treasurers. Central collection also promotes fiscal integrity.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME urges locals and chapters to move to a system of central collection of union dues; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME urges locals and chapters to negotiate contract language that directs the employer to remit dues to the council or appropriate body upon receipt.
