Retiree Pension System PEOPLE Checkoff

WHEREAS:

Many retiree members were active PEOPLE contributors before retirement and continue to remain active in AFSCME's political and legislative program; and

WHEREAS:

Many pension systems allow AFSCME retirees to contribute to the PEOPLE program by monthly deductions from their pension checks; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME retirees have a huge stake in the debate over the future of Social Security, Medicare, prescription drug prices, and state pension issues that directly affect their well-being; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME is in the forefront, leading the charge to protect the interests of senior citizens; and

WHEREAS:

The success of the pilot PEOPLE retiree drive in Illinois has proven that AFSCME retirees are willing to contribute to AFSCME's political fund; and

WHEREAS:

The dollars contributed to PEOPLE are utilized to elect pro-retiree officeholders.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That all retiree chapters seek an agreement with their pension systems to allow political deductions.
